SFDA delays ban on cosmetic products containing HICC/Lyral

The SFDA has delayed implementing the ban on cosmetic products containing HICC (Hydroxyisohexyl-3-cyclohexyldehyde) to August 2022.

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has postponed the implementation of Circular 66104 issued in 2019. The circular notified cosmetic product importers and manufacturers of the SFDA's ban of HICC (Hydroxyisohexyl-3-cyclohexyldehyde) in cosmetic products.

HICC, also known as Lyral, is a fragrance and masking ingredient used in deodorants, skin creams and cosmetics.

The 2019 circular stated that the ban would be implemented for products already on the market starting on August 1st, 2021. However, in the recent update, the SFDA extended the grace period to August 1, 2022.

The circular update indicated that the extension is due to the adverse conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
