How and why, you need a G-mark Renewal
The G-Mark is a mandatory conformity mark for products entering Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, guaranteeing compliance with Electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements. For products certified under the G-Mark, renewal is essential to maintain compliance and uninterrupted market access.
When Does Renewal Occur?
Cotecna will contact clients prior to the expiry date of the G-Mark certificate to confirm whether renewal is required.
Renewal Process Explained
If renewal is needed, Cotecna will guide you through these steps:
1. Design & Technical Review
- The product and its Technical File undergo a review to ensure continued compliance with Essential Safety Requirements.
- One sample of the product is required for this process.
2. Verification of Reference Standards
- Standards used for EMC and Safety presumption of conformity are checked for updates.
3. Outcome Scenarios
- No Technical Changes:
If no changes to standards or product design affect compliance, Cotecna issues a new Mark and updates the GSO registration database. - Technical Changes Identified:
If changes occur due to design modifications or updated standards, the product may require full or limited scope testing before renewal.
4. Withdrawal of Certificate
- If the Gulf Mark is not required beyond the three-year validity, Cotecna will withdraw it and update the GSO database.
5. Changes During Validity Period
- If technical changes to standards affecting Safety or EMC occur during the certificate’s validity, Cotecna will inform the applicant and advise on necessary actions.
Why Renewal Matters
Renewing your G-Mark ensures uninterrupted compliance, avoids market access issues, and maintains consumer trust in GCC countries.
Certificates that are not renewed will be automatically suspended from GSO. If they remain unrenewed for six months after the expiry date, the certificates will be terminated.
