Discover the latest SASO enhancements to textile standards. The update aims to align Saudi standards with global safety and quality benchmarks.
In a significant development on January 12th, 2024, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and quality Organization (SASO) announced updates to its textile regulations, that took effect on July 12th, 2024. This update marks a substantial overhaul in the regulatory framework for textiles in Saudi Arabia, aiming to align more closely with global safety and quality benchmarks.
The recent amendments include the deletion of 31 existing standards. These deletions are part of an effort to streamline and modernize the regulatory approach, removing outdated or dated standards. In place of these, SASO has introduced 10 new standards that reflect current international practices and technological advancements in textile production and safety.
Below is the list of the 10 new standards:

Additionally, a noteworthy terminological update has been made in the textile regulation. In clause number 6.1, the word “infant” has been changed to “children”. This change broadens the scope of the regulation to encompass a wider range of children’s products, thereby enhancing the protective measures for a larger demographic, which is critical for ensuring the safety and well-being of all young consumers.
